|Specimen Collection Requirements:|
|Patient Preparation:||Patients in outlying areas should be encouraged to have their blood tests within
an hour of the courier collect to minimise transport effect. Courier collect
times are listed with the opening hours for each area.
|Phlebotomist Instructions:||If this test requires payment please contact Haematology before phlebotomy.
2x Blue (Sodium Citrate) tube 2.7mL
|Minimum Sample Volume:||TUBE MUST BE FULL.|
|Unacceptable Samples:||Underfilled, clotted and haemolysed samples.
|Additional Information:||For visits marked "URGENT" collected in the Hutt lab, samples should be taxi'd
STRAIGHT to Wellington and marked with a fluro sticker saying “Urgent specialist
coagulation. Forward directly to Haematology ASAP”. The samples are NOT
centrifuged or separated since they should reach Specialist coagulation within
the hour. Please ensure that the samples are sent at amibent temp in the chilly
bin and NOT in a frozen container / next to an ice pack as this will freeze the
samples. The samples are placed in a red candy striped bag so that they are
Hutt lab should call Wellington lab reception number 04 245 0209 (ext 4209) to
let them know to expect the sample. After hours this should divert to the
hospital bench as reception is not staffed after 6pm M-F and weekends.
Wellington reception / hospital bench will deliver the sample straight to
Haematology upon receipt.
