Responsibilities

I start up, perform maintenance on and run biochemistry analysers. This includes analysers that do colourimetric tests, electrochemilumenescent tests, chromatography and electrophoresis. I assess quality control results to help ensure test results are accurate.

Some of the tests we do in chemistry include glucose, lipids, iron studies and pregnancy tests.

Most rewarding part of your job

Learning on the job: I am blessed to be doing a Graduate Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science while working full time in the lab. Learning from colleagues who have years of experience also makes the job rewarding.

Working in healthcare is rewarding because doing a good job contributes towards positive outcomes for the health of people in my community, and knowing that I’m part of that is motivating.

How do you most enjoy spending time outside work

I enjoy relaxing, running, walking, reading, building relationships and spending time at the beach.

Health tip

Slow down, stop, relax and sleep enough. Do what you can to minimise stress.

Something your colleagues may not know about you

I moved down to Wellington on a bus from Auckland 10 years ago.
